Osservatorio Inhes per monitorare la dieta e gli stili di vita degli italiani

Studiare le scelte alimentari degli italiani, capire come queste influenzano la salute e lo stile di vita. Da oggi è possibile perché è nato un nuovo strumento: l’Osservatorio Inhes (Italian Nutrition & Health Survey), un nuovo osservatorio epidemiologico sulla dieta e gli stili di vita della popolazione. È stato creato dagli esperti dell’Università Cattolica di Campobasso. Lo scopo principale è quello di capire se gli italiani sono in linea con il Modello Alimentare Mediterraneo.

Come sappiamo la dieta Mediterranea è stata dichiara patrimonio dell’Unesco, però in molte occasioni è stato anche detto che l’alimentazione dei nostri concittadini è diventata troppo proteica, mettendo in pericolo tutte le qualità che invece comporta una dieta ricca di frutta e verdura. Inhes ha focalizzato la sua attenzione sull’analisi del comportamento alimentare degli italiani (dettagliato per luogo e per età) per aiutare le persone con indicazioni realmente efficaci.

Che cosa è stato scoperto? In Italia, il 34,2% delle persone è in sovrappeso e il 9,8% è obeso. Un problema che tocca profondamente anche l’infanzia, quasi 1 bambino su 3 tra i 6 e gli 11 anni (oltre 1.100.000) ha problemi legati al Body Mass Index (Indice di massa corporea in italiano) e al giro vita. Un significativo aumento nell’incidenza di sindrome metabolica, patologie cardiovascolari e tumori è la conseguenza neppure troppo indiretta di questa situazione.

Andrea Ghiselli, Dirigente di Ricerca e Direttore Programma “Educazione e Comunicazione” dell’Istituto Nazionale Ricerca Alimenti e Nutrizione – INRAN, ha dichiarato:

L’alimentazione ha un ruolo importantissimo nel preservare la salute delle persone. Tuttavia, gli italiani, come altre popolazioni europee, si stanno sempre più allontanando dal tradizionale Modello Alimentare Mediterraneo a favore di abitudini e scelte alimentari tipiche delle società occidentali che, insieme alla sedentarietà, sono responsabili di un sempre più marcato aumento di eccedenza ponderale. Siamo preoccupati soprattutto per i giovani, che seguendo modelli e mode poco equilibrate rischiano di disperdere in breve tempo quel “bonus” protettivo lasciato in eredità dai nonni.
