Questo è quanto accade. Sono stati monitorati 21 mila uomini (un campione vastissimo e quindi affidabile) tra i 40 e i 69 anni. È stato scoperto che un aumento, che di poco, del girovita fa aumentare il rischio: il rapporto esatto che hanno stabilito è di 0,95. Se questo rapporto viene superato il rischio di problematiche oculari, malattie cardiache e metaboliche aumenta a dismisura.
