Lo studio è stato condotto con l’ausilio di 22 volontari adulti; ad un gruppo sono state date quotidianamente nove noci mentre all’altro no; dopo sei settimane, i medici hanno effettuato delle prove di resistenza allo stress e hanno verificato come coloro che avevano mangiato le noci fossero più in forma dal punto di vista del sistema nervoso.
A commento dei risultati dell’indagine, la dottoressa Sheila West, coordinatrice dello studio, ha dichiarato:
E’ la prima volta che si trova un beneficio simile da parte di un alimento nei confronti di un effetto dello stress: questo può essere molto utile perché non possiamo evitare i fattori di stress nella nostra vita.
Inoltre, secondo una ricerca condotta dalla Loma Linda University, in California, e pubblicata su “Archives of Internal Medicine”, le noci, e tutta la frutta secca in generale, sono utili per prevenire le malattie cardiache, in quanto sarebbero in grado di bruciare il colesterolo.
Anche in questo caso lo studio è stato condotto dividendo dei volontari in due gruppi: al primo sono stati somministrati 67 grammi di frutta secca e al secondo no. Al termine del primo mese di trattamento, gli scienziati hanno riscontrato che il gruppo che aveva mangiato la frutta secca, aveva avuto una riduzione del colesterolo. Proprio in relazione ai risultati dello studio, i medici consigliano di
consumare 67 grammi al giorno di frutta secca, specialmente agli individui con alti livelli di colesterolo cattivo ed indice di massa corporea nella media.
