Il Mangostano è una pianta tropicale poco conosciuta in Italia, che produce frutti deliziosi ed estremamente salutari. Infatti, la mangostina – questo è il nome del frutto – è stata molto usata nella medicina popolare dei Paesi del Sud-Est asiatico perché, oltre a essere ricca di sostanze nutritive, è una fonte incredibile di antiossidanti.
Tra gli antiossidanti più noti, presenti nel frutto, ci sono xantoni, tannini, catechine, stilbeni e polifenoli. Gli xantoni sono famosi per essere degli antiage naturali davvero molto potenti, i tannini sono antinfiammatori e mantengono bassi i livelli di colesterolo, mentre gli stilbeni tengono lontane le micosi. Questo mix di antiossidanti è prezioso soprattutto per contrastare l’azione dei radicali liberi, molecole ossidanti che non sono lo accelerano l’invecchiamento cutaneo ma anche quello cellulare, favorendo l’insorgere di numerose malattie, come i tumori, i problemi cardiorespiratori e neurologici (dal Parkinson all’ Alzheimer).
Per capire il valore di questo frutto, bisogna rifarsi al test Orac (Oxigen Radical Adsorbance Capacity), che ha dimostrato che questa sostanza raggiunge i 24 mila punti, un risultato da record. Tenete in considerazione che per avere dei reali effetti sull’organismo i vegetali devono raggiungere all’Orac almeno i 2mila punti e che famosi antiossidanti come il melograno, gli spinaci e la vitamina E non raggiungono neanche i mille. Nel pericarpo (ovvero la buccia) sono presenti anche Potassio, Calcio, Fosforo, Ferro, Vitamine B1, B2, B6, e C.
Il mangostano (il termine fitorapico è Garcinia mangostana), tra le altre cose, tiene alla larga le allergie. Secondo, infatti, numerosi studi l’infiammazione è un elemento tipico delle allergie: due componenti fondamentali di questa pianta (Alfa e beta- mangostina) sono in grado di bloccare i recettori dell’istamina e di conseguenza di produrre un effetto antiallergico. Il succo di questo frutto, inoltre, è consigliato nella dieta per curare l’obesità e prevenire l’insorgere di diabete e cardiopatie, perché dovrebbe abbassare i livelli di proteina C reattiva (CRP), fattore di rischio grave proprio come il colesterolo cattivo.
