L’inverno è il periodo ideale nel quale consumare la frutta secca che, però, andrebbe mangiata tutto l’anno grazie alle sue proprietà benefiche. A tutti gli studi sulle virtù della frutta secca se n’è aggiunto un altro di significativa importanza: mangiare tutti i giorni una manciata di frutta secca aiuterebbe a vivere più a lungo e in salute.

Lo studio in questione è il più grande condotto sulla frutta secca, dato che è durato oltre trent’anni! La ricerca, condotta dai ricercatori del Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, del Brigham and Women’s Hospital e della Harvard School of Public Health e pubblicata sul sul New England Journal of Medicine, proclama la frutta secca e a guscio vero e proprio elisir di lunga vita. Basti pensare che, secondo i risultati dello studio, chi mangia un po’ di frutta secca tutti i giorni ha il 20% in meno di probabilità di morire per diverse cause.

I benefici della frutta secca sono molti e gran parte dei quali anche piuttosto noti: fa bene al cuore e può prevenire tumori e diabete; grazie allo studio dei ricercatori inglesi, inoltre, è emerso che la frutta secca non fa ingrassare, come invece credono in molti e, soprattutto, aiuta la longevità e l’aspettativa di vita, come spiegano gli stessi scienziati:

Il vantaggio più evidente è stata una riduzione del 29% delle morti per malattia di cuore. Ma abbiamo anche visto una significativa riduzione dell’11% del rischio di morire di cancro. In tutte queste analisi, le persone che hanno mangiato più frutta secca era meno probabile che morissero durante il periodo di follow-up durato 30 anni.

Non c’è una frutta secca che apporta maggiori benefici rispetto a un’altra: l’effetto positivo riguarda l’intero genere dato che i ricercatori non sono riusciti ad identificare un tipo più benefico di un altro. Non solo: è stato anche scoperto un collegamento tra il consumo di frutta secca e la riduzione dei livelli di colesterolo, dell’infiammazione, dello stress ossidativo, del grasso e dell’insulino-resistenza.

Via libera, dunque, a noci, nocciole, mandorle, pistacchi e anacardi, tutti risultati veri e propri elisir di lunga vita.
