I benefici dell’olio d’oliva sono ormai noti a tutti, ma questo prezioso alimento non smette di sorprendici con le sue molteplici proprietà salutari: secondo uno studio condotto dal Cnr di Roma, l’olio d’oliva sarebbe utile per contrastare l’invecchiamento cerebrale. Una scoperta che va ad aggiungersi a tutte quelle che mostrano i vantaggi dell’usare questo olio come condimento.
L’olio d’oliva, si sa, non è solo buono per il palato: è un toccasana anche per la salute e per il benessere psico-fisico; in particolare, è stato quest’ultimo aspetto dell’olio d’oliva ad essere stato preso in esame dai ricercatori dell’Istituto di biologia cellulare e neurobiologia del Cnr di Roma. Gli esperti hanno condotto un esperimento per comprende meglio il ruolo protettivo svolto dai polifenoli, delle sostanze di contenute in grandi quantità nell’olio d’oliva e in altri alimenti vegetali.
Queste sostanze sono risultate essere molto benefiche tanto che basterebbero due cucchiai d’olio d’oliva a crudo per renderci più brillanti e combattere l’invecchiamento.
Il dottor Marco Fiore, ricercatore del Cnr, ha spiegato:
Lo scopo del nostro esperimento è stato dimostrare se la somministrazione di polifenoli estratti dall’olivo potesse avere effetti sui fattori di crescita che sono in grado di stimolare l’incremento dei neuroni, la proliferazione e la differenziazione del cervello dei mammiferi.
I risultati dello studio, che sono stati riportati sulla rivista scientifica Nutrition, hanno evidenziato come i polifenoli contenuti nell’olio extravergine d’oliva siano in grado di potenziare la neuro genesi del cervello proteggendoli dai danni provocati dall’età e, quindi, svolgendo una funzione anti-invecchiamento.
Insomma: i polifenoli contenuti nell’olio d’oliva funzionano come una sorta di elisir di lunga vita per il cervello. Per questo motivo gli esperti consigliano un consumo quotidiano di due cucchiai di olio d’oliva a crudo per aiutarci a prevenire l’insorgenza di malattie cardiovascolari, infiammazioni e prevenire l’azione dannosa dei radicali liberi.
