Stevia, il dolcificante naturale che fa bene alla salute

steviaÈ 300 volte più dolce dello zucchero e potrebbe essere il futuro per migliorare la dieta delle persone obese, diabetiche o affette da malattie cardio-vascolari.  Stiamo parlando della Stevia, una pianta dell’America del Sud, considerata un potente dolcificante naturale, privo di calorie, ma ricco di proprietà benefiche.

La prima virtù questo dolcificante sta nel fatto che potrebbe creare l’opportunità di sostituire completamente l’aspartame, sempre al centro di numerose critiche perché sembra contribuire all’insorgere di numerose malattie. Ora i ricercatori del Dipartimento di Scienze agrarie, Alimentari e agro-ambientali dell’Università di Pisa, in collaborazione con il Laboratorio Utagri-Inn del Centro di Ricerche Enea della Casaccia, hanno creato una nuova e potente formulazione. Luciana Angelini dell’ateneo pisano ha dichiarato a Repubblica:

L’obiettivo è di ottenere un estratto per il settore alimentare, ma anche per quello farmaceutico, utilizzando tecnologie innovative in modo che possa essere impiegato anche per i prodotti biologici. Gli estratti di stevia rappresentano un’eccellente possibilità per migliorare la dieta di soggetti affetti da varie patologie quali obesità, diabete mellito, malattie cardio-vascolari e carie dentale, e sono un’alternativa naturale ai dolcificanti artificiali come l’aspartame o la saccarina, i cui effetti sulla salute hanno recentemente sollevato molte preoccupazioni.

La stevia è una pianta molto antica e conosciuta come rimedio naturale da tantissimi anni. I primi a utilizzarla furono gli spagnoli che nel 16esimo secolo ne scoprirono le virtù. Dove si può trovare? È tipica di Brasile e Paraguay, ma esistono delle piantagioni in Brasile, Paraguay, Uruguay, America Centrale, Israele, Thailandia e Cina. Chissà quindi se finalmente la nostra salute avrà una chance in più grazie all’eliminazione dello zucchero bianco. Intanto, utilizzate quello di canna e alternatelo con il fruttosio. Inoltre, provate a sostituire lo zucchero con un cucchiaino di miele, quando ne avete l’occasione. Ci vuole davvero poco, a volte, per correggere alcune abitudini alimentari poco sane.
