Dieta freegan, il movimento vegan contro il consumismo

La dieta freegan non è una dieta vera e propria, è più un movimento. Freegan fonde due parole: freedom e vegan. I freegan sono tutte quelle persone che decidono di adottare un regime alimentare vegano abbracciando anche uno stile di vita anticonsumistico. Esse sono persone che utilizzano strategie alternative per vivere, ecco perché non si può ridurre freeganismo al solo concetto di regime alimentare.

Che cosa vuol seguire stili di vita alternativi? Per esempio utilizzare gli scarti dei mercati rionali o i cibi buttati dai supermercati a fine giornata. Su Twitter, però, questo fenomeno è stato ovviamente molto criticato: sono volati appellativi come “accattoni”, “tirchi”, “morti di fame” e molto altro.

Cerchiamo di guardare un po’ oggettivamente il fenomeno. Consumare i cibi appena scaduti o le merci di scarto dei supermercati non è un reato, purchè questi siano ancora buoni. Ci sono store che regalano la merce o che fanno super saldi. Se ciò vuol dire non impattare sull’ambiente, potrebbe essere un approccio positivo.

Recuperare invece il cibo dal cassonetto della spazzatura non è igienico. Non è una mossa saggia e non si può parlare di atteggiamento etico. In questo caso, conviene assicurarsi che gli altri facciano una buona raccolta differenzia, perché forse è uno strumento ben più importante per salvare il nostro ambiente.

Il freeganismo nasce a New York alla fine degli anni Novanta con un’impronta quasi anarchica in risposta al consumismo e al capitalismo. Dopo inutili tentativi di boicottaggio dei prodotti venduti da aziende non responsabili eticamente, i freegans hanno pensato che, se è vero che è possibile fermare le multinazionali, le si può comunque attaccare non acquistando più cibo.
