Ma c’è di più, appena guardate un cibo ingrassate o il vostro metabolismo è così efficiente da essere sempre magrissimi? Dopo anni di ricerche, gli esperti della Università del Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, hanno risolto alcuni dei misteri legati all’ormone adiponectina, un ormone che controlla il metabolismo energetico di lipidi e carboidrati, conosciuto anche come ormone della fame.
L’obiettivo della ricerca era quello di scoprire come questo ormone impedisca la sensibilità all’insulina e possa favorire la sopravvivenza delle cellule. La comprensione di questi meccanismi potrebbe portare allo sviluppo di nuovi trattamenti per il diabete, il cancro, le malattie cardiache, ma anche per tutte quelle patologie strettamente legate(e non solo) ai problemi di peso.
Ovviamente è stato svolto un attento studio, per verificare l’influenza dell’ormone. Si sono condotti una serie di esami in laboratorio e lo studio è in corso da circa 17 anni. Solo ora però i medici sembrano essere arrivati a una vera svolta. Il dottor Philipp Scherer, professore di medicina interna e biologia cellulare e uno degli autori dello studio ha spiegato:

Infatti, la grande scoperta è che se si introduce l’adiponectina nelle cellule, questo ormone provocava la conversione delle ceramidi da forza distruttiva in forza costruttiva, aiutando le cellule a sopravvivere e inibendo la morte cellulare. A noi queste cose tecniche interessano poco, ciò che però è importante è il fatto che si aprono così scenari terapeutici nuovi: agire su questo ormone può infatti permettere di curare o inibire certe malattie. Secondo Scherer, l’adiponectina potrebbe essere molto importante per manipolare i livelli di lipidi.
