La notizia è incoraggiante e può aprire nuovi scenari. Gli esperti, con le loro analisi, hanno, infatti, dimostrato che una pillola al giorno di ‘genisteina‘, il principale isoflavone che si trova nella soia, è in grado di rallentare o fermare la diffusione del cancro alla prostata. Per adesso però i dati elaborati sono stati testati solo su un campione ridotto, ma i medici sono convinti che sia questo un passo molto importante.
L’idea, infatti, è quella di studiare un trattamento per contrastare la crescita delle cellule tumorali. Raymond Bergan, che ha coordinato lo studio, ha dichiarato:
Il primo passo è stato quello di vedere se il farmaco ha l’effetto desiderato sulle cellule e sulla prostata, e la risposta è stata sì. Se questo farmaco può effettivamente evitare che il cancro alla prostata si diffonda nel corpo, teoricamente una terapia simile potrebbe avere lo stesso effetto sulle cellule di altri tipi di cancro.
Poi c’è stato un secondo studio, sempre americano, ma stavolta dell’Università di Buffalo, che ha invece verificato gli effetti della soia per contrastare il cancro alla mammella. Dai risultati è emerso che gli isoflavoni della soia possono ridurre il rischio di sviluppare il cancro al seno. I ricercatori hanno, infatti, scoperto che le donne che hanno consumato più isoflavoni avevano un 30 per cento di possibilità in meno di essere colpite da un cancro al seno invasivo e il 60 per cento di probabilità in meno di sviluppare un cancro ‘di basso grado’.
