Una ricerca dell’Università Extremadura di Caceres, in Spagna, ha scoperto che la birra aiuta a prevenire l’osteoporosi. Lo studio, pubblicato sulla rivista scientifica Nutricion, è stato condotto su un campione di 1700 donne con età media di 48 anni. I ricercatori, dopo aver raccolto informazioni relative allo stile di vita ed alle abitudini alimentari delle donne analizzate, le hanno sottoposte ad una densitometria ossea, esame che permette di determinare l’esatto contenuto di calcio delle ossa, attraverso gli ultrasuoni, in particolare di quelle delle dita della mano.
Dai dati emersi gli studiosi hanno constatato che le donne che facevano un uso moderato di birra avevano una struttura ossea più densa e, di conseguenza, una minore incidenza di fratture rispetto a quelle che non avevano l’abitudine di consumare questa bevanda. Secondo il dott. Juan Pedrera-Zamorano, ricercatore a capo dello studio:
Il silicio è un elemento fondamentale per la formazione delle ossa e la birra è tra le sostanze di alto contenuto di silicio.
Infatti il silicio è un elemento che stimola la formazione di nuovo materiale osseo e ne rallenta il processo di erosione e decalcificazione. E, all’interno della dieta occidentale, la birra è l’alimento che più di ogni altro ha il maggior contenuto di silicio. Gli esperti, quindi, indicano come quantità ottimale per contribuire a proteggere e rinforzare le ossa un bicchiere di birra al giorno (o una pinta di piccole dimensioni).
Non solo, la birra è anche ricca di fitoprogesterone atto a mantenere le ossa in buona salute.
Ha affermato il dott. Juan Pedrera-Zamorano a conclusione dell’intervista. Il fitoprogesterone, infatti, è una variante vegetale del progesterone, un ormone steroideo che appartiene al gruppo degli ormoni progestinici. Sebbene una piccola quota venga prodotta anche nell’uomo, il progesterone è un tipico ormone femminile. Esso viene secreto in maggiore quantità nelle donne in età fertile all’interno del processo di ovulazione.
