Il segreto sta nel palmo della mano. Secondo Barry Sears, inventore della famosissima dieta a zona, il cibo può essere usato come una medicina per migliorare la nostra vita, la salute in generale e per aiutarci a vivere più a lungo.

Barry Sears, biochimico statunitense inventore della dieta a zona, ha presentato i suo ultimo libro, “Positive Nutrition” (Sperling & Kupfer). Stimolato dalle vicende familiari, come la morte di suo padre e dei suoi fratelli all’età di cinquant’anni per cardiopatie, Sears ha deciso di impostare la sua carriera sulla ricerca e ha capito che il cibo può diventare la medicina del futuro.

Per questo ha abbandonato lo studio degli aspetti molecolari e si è dedicato allo studio della capacità che hanno alcuni cibi di controllare lo stato infiammatorio responsabile dell’obesità e di altre patologie croniche, oltre che dell’invecchiamento precoce.

> DIETA ZONA, QUALI SONO I CIBI PERMESSI

I principi della dieta di Sears si possono riassumere nella regola del tris (40-30-30): il 40% di carboidrati assunti prevalentemente attraverso verdura e frutta, 30% di frutta e 30% di proteine. Quindi durante una giornata si può mangiare fino a un chilo di verdura condita con un cucchiaio di olio e poi frutta. Le proteine invece devono essere poche: se mangiate una porzione di pollo deve essere grande quanto il vostro palmo della mano.

> DIETA A ZONA, LA SETTIMANA TIPO

Sono concessi anche tre spuntini e non devono passare più di 5 ore tra un passo e un altro. Si può anche bere un bicchiere di latte prima di andare a letto ma devono essere evitati tutti i grassi idrogenati, gli zuccheri che causano squilibri ormonali, gli insaccati e le fritture.
