Il totale dei volontari coinvolti era di 352 con un’età compresa fra i 7 e i 9 anni.
Dai dati è, inoltre, emerso che livelli ematici di omega-3 (in particolare DHA) sono significativamente associati a un buon sonno, una minore resistenza nel voler andare a dormire e una riduzione di altri disturbi del sonno, abbastanza frequenti nell’infanzia. Non è tutto, perché bassi livelli di DHA sono associati a livelli insufficienti di melatonina.
Bisogna quindi prendere degli integratori a base di DHA? Non è necessario, mangiare pesce azzurro due o tre volte la settimana potrebbe essere sufficiente. Paul Montgomery dell’Università di Oxford, come riporta LaStampa, ha dichiarato:
