Dieta South Beach, dimagrire in modo equilibrato

dieta south beachNon è una dieta dell’ultima ora, dato che esiste già da qualche anno, piuttosto sta ritornando in auge grazie a Janet Jackson che l’ha eletta a sua dieta preferita: stiamo parlando della dieta South Beach, un regime alimentare ipocalorico basato sulla riduzione dei carboidrati, dei grassi cosiddetti “buoni” e sul controllo dell’indice glicemico degli alimenti.

La dieta South Beach, come suggerisce il nome, proviene dall’America, e più precisamente da Miami Beach, in Florida, ed è stata ideata dal dottor Arthur Agatston, direttore di un prestigioso centro di prevenzione cardiaca. La dieta South Beach si basa sul fatto che i carboidrati vengono digeriti troppo velocemente e ciò fa aumentare i livello di insulina che, a sua volta fa aumentare il desiderio di cibo e spinge a “cercare” altri carboidrati dando il via a un circolo vizioso che spinge a mangiare di più.

Insomma: l’obiettivo di questa dieta è quella di interrompere questo processo e imparare a stimolare il desiderio per cibi più sani; come? Sostenendo gli alimenti a basso indice glicemico, il tutto senza eliminare i grassi, ma solo scegliendo quelli più sani.

La dieta South Beach non è una dieta da fame, non si basa sul mero calcolo delle calorie anche se, naturalmente, non incoraggia ad abbuffarsi, semmai consiglia di rivedere la grandezza delle porzioni, insomma, a soddisfare la fame ma senza andare oltre.

Questa dieta inizia con una fase introduttiva di 14 giorni nella quale sono vietati riso, pane, patate, pasta, frutta, alcuni vegetali come pomodori, carote e cipolle, prodotti da forno, alcolici e super alcolici. Dopo la fase iniziale i carboidrati possono essere reintrodotti in modo graduale, ma non i dolci, e a patto di essere consumati di tanto in tanto e sono in quantità ridotte. Questo consumo minimo di carboidrati deve essere mantenuto fino a raggiungere il peso desiderato. Infine, c’è la terza fase, che è quella finale, nella quale si può tornare a mangiare normalmente, tanto l’organismo si è abituato a non eccedere con i carboidrati e a consumare porzioni ridotte. 

I cibi che, invece, sono permessi nella dieta South Beach sono tutti quelli che contengono fibre, come la frutta, la verdura e i cereali integrali, i legumi, la carne, i frutti di mare, la soia e le uova, il latte e i suoi derivati a patto che siano a basso contenuto di grassi, e gli alimenti che contengono grassi insaturi come il pesce, gli oli di origine vegetale e la frutta secca. Inoltre, questa dieta, consiglia anche di adottare l’esercizio fisico come abitudine quotidiana e non solo per una questione di perdita di peso: fare sport regolarmente permette di accelerare il metabolismo.

La dieta South Beach è una dieta tutto sommato equilibrata, in quanto non esclude nessuno dei principali gruppi di nutrienti, semmai, l’unica pecca è nella fase introduttiva, nella quale la maggior parte del peso che si perde è acqua, fatto che potrebbe creare degli squilibri. Come per tutte le diete dimagranti, anche prima di intraprendere la South Beach, è bene consultarsi con un medico.
