Sono state coinvolte nello studio più di 400 donne con età media di 44 anni e un indice di massa corporea di 34. Per avere un’idea di questo dato, bisogna considerare che il massimo dovrebbe essere 30.
Durante la ricerca hanno diviso le signore in 3 gruppi: uno ha fatto la dieta e il moto, il secondo e il terzo hanno invece consumato cibi preconfezionati per perdere peso (la differenza tra questi due stava nel fatto che erano seguiti diversamente, con telefonate o incontri). I risultati si sono visti dopo circa due anni: le signore che hanno fatto parte dell’autocontrollo hanno perso solo due chili, rispetto ai sei o sette di colore che avevano ricevuto pasti preparati. Questi ultimi avevano anche colesterolo e trigliceridi più bassi. I ricercatori hanno commentato:
Anche se i programmi commerciali per perdere peso sono popolari in America, ci sono scarse prove scientifiche in base alle quali giudicarli. Fino ad oggi non c’erano abbastanza studi per affermare che, almeno alcuni, sono in grado di promuovere una perdita di peso che eguagli o superi quella che si ottiene con il “counseling” di un esperto o l’intervento.
