Dieta chetogenica, cuore a rischio?

La dieta chetogenica potrebbe essere molto pericolosa per il cuore. Questo regime alimentare che ha conquistato tantissime star e vip nostrani e non potrebbe non rivelarsi così salutare come sembra.

A raccontarlo è uno studio condotto dall’università della British Columbia di Vancouver. Gli scienziati hanno sottolineato come la dieta chetogenica potrebbe arrivare a raddoppiare il rischio di sviluppare condizioni cardiovascolari e malattie cardiache potenzialmente mortali.

Ricordiamo che la dieta chetogenica prevede l’assunzione delle calorie giornaliere da un 20%-30% di proteine e da un  60%-80% di grassi. In pratica con questo regime alimentare si tende a mandare il corpo in chetosi consumando meno carboidrati possibili.

Tecnicamente parlando i carboidrati sono generalmente la fonte principale di energia dell’organismo. Nella dieta chetogenica il loro essere proibiti, in pratica, spinge il corpo a scomporre i grassi per produrre energia per far funzionare l’organismo. Certo, questo porta ad attingere alle riserve di grasso del corpo e quindi a dimagrire.

Ma quale costo? È questo che si sono chiesti gli autori dello studio, sottolineando che tale regime alimentare può presentare gravi effetti collaterali. Come sono giunti a questa conclusione? Seguendo 1500 persone per oltre 10 anni e scoprendo che la dieta chetogenica può far aumentare i livelli di colesterolo cattivo favorendo il deposito di grasso nelle pareti delle arterie.

Qualcosa che può rivelarsi base per la presentazione di infarto, ad esempio. Sebbene il nostro organismo produca già da solo colesterolo LDL, regimi alimentari come la dieta chetogenica possono favorirne una maggiore produzione a causa dei grassi saturi e trans. E le placche arteriose che possono venire a crearsi aumentano il rischio sia di infarto che di ictus.

Tenere sotto controllo il colesterolo cattivo

La ricerca condotta dagli scienziati canadesi non ha trovato una correlazione causa effetto ma un’associazione. Ciò significa che nonostante tutto bisogna comunque fare attenzione quando si decide di seguire una dieta chetogenica. E come sempre affidarsi non solo a un esperto ma consultare un medico prima di seguire questo regime.

Non solo: data la casistica sarebbe anche consigliato continuare a studiare gli effetti di questo regime alimentare sull’organismo. Come ha spiegato la coordinatrice dello studio Iulia Iatan, i risultati ottenuti suggeriscono non solo di proseguire con la ricerca ma anche coloro che iniziano una dieta chetogenica devono essere coscienti che farlo potrebbe portare a un aumento dei livelli di colesterolo cattivo.

Cercando contemporaneamente di fare attenzione a quelli che possono essere considerati gli altri fattori di rischio delle malattie cardiache come il diabete, il fumo  e lo scarso movimento fisico.
