Il cren è una pianta conosciuta anche con il nome di barbaforte o rafano tedesco, dal quale si può ottenere una salsa omonima da utilizzare all’interno di qualsiasi dieta.

I benefici del cren

Sebbene non sia molto conosciuta, in realtà parliamo di un vegetale utilizzato spesso anche in Italia, dal quale per l’appunto si ottiene un condimento particolarmente usato nel nordest della penisola. È uno dei cibi piccanti più noti, il cui odore è pungente in maniera molto simile a quella del wasabi.

Il suo consumo può apportare diversi benefici. Prepararla in casa non è difficile sebbene non sia perfetta per l’utilizzo di tutti. Il fatto che venga utilizzata anche della mollica di pane bianco sbriciolata rende questo condimento non utilizzabile dalle persone affette da celiachia.

Ciò che ci interessa, quando parliamo del cren, sono i benefici che può darci sia se utilizzato come ingrediente di preparati per uso esterno sia se consumato. Come ingrediente di preparazioni per uso esterno il cren è ottimo per combattere dermatosi ed herpes anche se può essere irritante per le pelli più sensibili. Le sue proprietà vaso-dilatatorie aiutano ad affrontare i sintomi legati a dolori articolari, alle tendiniti e ai reumatismi.

Il cren come sapore ricorda la senape, ragione per il quale viene utilizzato come sostituto della stessa o del pepe. È in grado di apportare ottimi benefici sia nel combattere le infezioni urinarie anche grazie al suo effetto diuretico e antimicrobico e viene considerato un ottimo vermifugo. Quindi perfetto come rimedio naturale per i vermi intestinali.

È in grado di stimolare la produzione di succhi gastrici e quindi di favorire la digestione. Grazie alle sue qualità espettoranti può essere un ottimo rimedio naturale contro la tosse grassa e la bronchite.

Ecco quando è sconsigliato

È meglio consultare il proprio medico in caso si abbia intenzione di consumarne in quantità importanti. Alcuni studi hanno dimostrato come i glicosidi che lo compongono potrebbero essere di disturbo all’attività della tiroide. Per tale motivo è sconsigliato per coloro affetti da ipotiroidismo.

Lo ripetiamo: si consumato in questo caso una volta ogni tanto e in misura contenuta non rappresenta alcun problema. Sono solo le grandi ripetute quantità che potrebbero ridurre la funzionalità tiroidea. E invece sconsigliato il consumo di questa radice a coloro che soffrono di danni renali ed è suggerito un consumo moderato nelle donne incinte, in quelle che allattano e per i bambini piccoli.

Nonostante le sue importanti capacità va ricordato che può risultare irritante. Per questa ragione è meglio evitare di consumarlo se si soffre di ulcere duodenali o gastriche.
