Secondo una ricerca delle università australiane del South Wales e del Queensland, i cui risultati sono stati pubblicati sul Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, le bibite con aggiunta di zucchero, da non confondere con le deleterie bibite gassate e zuccherate, riducono lo stress e la tendenza alla collera.

I ricercatori sono giunti a questa conclusione dopo aver coinvolto un gruppo di volontari nella simulazione di due situazioni stressanti: l’incontro con un superiore e il rientro in famiglia dopo una pesante giornata di lavoro, precedute o meno dall’assunzione di un bicchiere di limonata zuccherata.

In questo modo è stato possibile osservare che i soggetti che avevano consumato la bevanda dolcificata prima delle situazioni stressanti mostravano un maggiore controllo della situazione e una notevole riduzione degli scatti d’ira (presumibilmente, aggiungiamo noi, verso i familiari).

Secondo i ricercatori australiani il merito dell’indiscutibile aplomb mostrato dai volontari in condizioni che, immaginiamo, avrebbero causato ansia o mandato in bestia chiunque, sarebbe tutto del glucosio, che avrebbe sì il potere di intensificare gli impulsi cerebrali, ma anche quello di ottenere una loro maggiore efficienza e, di conseguenza, una maggiore capacità di gestione delle emozioni in condizioni di stress acuto.

Come spiegano gli studiosi

Quando si sa che le provocazioni sono probabili nell’ambiente in cui ci trova, ad esempio, quando si incontra un supervisore difficile in una riunione di lavoro, bere una bevanda zuccherata prima di questo incontro potrebbe aumentare la propria capacità di inibire in modo efficace gli scatti d’ira. Il consumo di una bevanda zuccherata durante il ritorno a casa dopo una giornata stressante potrebbe ridurre l’aggressività verso i familiari.
