Per combattere lo stress, mangia una fetta di melone

L’estate è proprio la stagione giusta per gustarsi un buona fetta di melone dolce e succoso. C’è chi lo accompagna con fette di prosciutto crudo e chi lo gusta insieme ad altre verdure o frutta. A ogni modo, qualunque siano i vostri gusti sappiate che con il melone non soddisfate solo il palato, ma vi proteggete dallo stress. A sostenerlo sono i risultati di uno studio condotto da un team di i ricercatori dell’Istituto Nazionale Francese per la ricerca agricola , meglio noto con l’acronimo INRA, coordinati dal dott. Jean-Paul Lallès.

Gli scienziati francesi hanno condotto una ricerca su modello animale in cui si evidenzia come un supplemento quotidiano di antiossidanti SOD, ovvero di superossido dismutasi enzimatici, come quelli contenuti nel melone possa abbassare i livelli di proteine dello stress che si accumulano nell’intestino. Lo studio, pubblicato sulla rivista scientifica Nutrition, è stato condotto su un gruppo di 36 maialini che sono stati tenuti a digiuno per due giorni. Successivamente gli animali sono stati suddivisi in tre gruppi.

I maialini sono stati nutriti con una dieta standard uguale per tutti per un periodo di tre settimane. Due dei tre gruppi, tuttavia, hanno avuto un’integrazione alla dieta composta da 12,5 o 50 UI/Kg di antiossidanti SOD con lo scopo preciso di valutare eventuali modifiche dei livelli delle proteine dello stress nell’intestino degli animali. Al termine dello studio, i risultati delle analisi hanno mostrato che i livelli ematici di SOD aumentavano con dosi crescenti di melone.

Come hanno spiegato i ricercatori,

“Il tratto gastrointestinale, GIT, rappresenta una barriera per impedire il passaggio di potenziali microrganismi nocivi o sostanze tossiche nella circolazione portale. La sua tutela nei confronti delle proteine dello stress è quindi di estrema importanza per quanto riguarda l’esposizione permanente a tali aggressori”.

Questo studio, sottolineano i ricercatori, dimostra per la prima volta che la supplementazione con una dieta ricca di polpa di melone contenente antiossidanti SOD diminuisce l’espressione delle proteine dello stress nell’intestino.
