Il cosiddetto raffreddore da fieno è in realtà la rinite allergica, una patologia infiammatoria acuta e tuttavia ricorrente che ogni anno, puntuale, colpisce milioni di persone nella sola Europa.
Le soluzioni a oggi non sono molte, e nemmeno efficaci e durature. Ma ecco che un team di intraprendenti ricercatori forse ha avuto un’idea che potrebbe rivoluzionare questa situazione. Partendo dall’idea che i probiotici hanno un ruolo nel rafforzare le difese immunitarie, alcuni scienziati britannici stanno studiando un drink allo yogurt che potrebbe fornire una cura per questo tipo di problema.
I ricercatori della University of East Anglia e dell’University of Norwich Research Park, in Gran Bretagna, hanno reclutato un gruppo di volontari per verificare come lo yogurt possa essere d’aiuto nel curare il raffreddore da fieno. A questi volontari è stato fatto assumere una bevanda allo yogurt contenente un particolare batterio detto Lactobacillus casei Shirota, meglio noto con l’acronimo LcS. Tutti i partecipanti erano affetti da rinite allergica. Dopo aver assunto questa bevanda arricchita dal probiotico integrandola con un’alimentazione sana per qualche settimana, i volontari hanno mostrato un miglioramento nella risposta del sistema immunitario agli allergeni sottoforma di pollini.
Ora che la prima fase dello studio è stata completata, gli scienziati procederanno alle altre fasi per valutare efficacemente l’effetto di questa bevanda e, soprattutto, del probiotico in questione. Tutti coloro che sono affetti da questa fastidiosa patologia, il mondo scientifico e le organizzazioni interessate ora sono in attesa dei risultati di questi studi per vedere se finalmente si potrà dare una risposta definitiva a questo invalidante problema.
