E’ risaputo che la salute della vista sia importante. Una minaccia, tra le tante, è la pressione oculare che se troppo elevata si trasforma in ipertensione oculare. Tra i possibili disturbi correlati c’è per esempio il glaucoma, una patologia che può portare alla cecità. Un nuovo studio condotto dai ricercatori dell’Università degli Studi G. d’Annunzio, a Chieti e Pescara, mette in evidenza la proprietà di abbassare la pressione oculare da parte di un mix a base di mirtillo e corteccia di pino marittimo.
I ricercatori italiani, guidati dal professor Robert Steigerwalt, hanno reclutato 79 persone con l’ipertensione oculare ma senza sintomi di perdita della capacità visiva o glaucoma. I partecipanti sono poi stati suddivisi in tre gruppi. Il gruppo A ha ricevuto giornalmente un supplemento a base di 40 mg di Pycnogenol e 80 mg di Mirtoselect; il gruppo B ha ricevuto il collirio Latanoprost e il gruppo C una combinazione di entrambi. Il trattamento è durato 24 settimane.
Alla fine del test, i ricercatori hanno rilevato che vi era stata una riduzione della pressione sanguigna nell’occhio da una media di 38,1 a 29,0 mmHg nel gruppo A; da 37,7 a 27,2 mmHg nel gruppo B e da 38,0 a 23,0 mmHg nel gruppo C. I valori vanno tenuti in considerazione che una pressione oculare normale è riferita a un range di 10-21 mmHg. Già precedenti studi affermavano come l’estratto di mirtilli possa contrastare l’aumento della permeabilità dei capillari sanguigni e come, a sua volta, l’estratto di corteccia di pino marittimo possa migliorare il rivestimento dei vasi sanguigni e abbassare la pressione arteriosa generale.
Come hanno affermato i ricercatori durante l’intervista per la rivista Clinical Ophthalmology,
“I risultati ottenuti da questo studio, e da un precedente studio pilota, per mezzo di supplementi alla dieta con Mirtogenol sulla pressione intraoculare sembrano essere molto promettenti. Con uno studio molto più grande, con un numero significativo di pazienti, si dovrebbe poter valutare i benefici di tali supplementi per il controllo della pressione intraoculare”.
