Sembra che i semi di lino aiutino a combattere il cancro ovarico, male sempre più diffuso fra le donne che entrano in menopausa. Ad affermarlo è un recente studio che per ora è stato condotto su modello animale, ma che ha buone probabilità di avere una valenza positiva sugli esseri umani, cosa che potrà essere verificata a seguito di uno studio più articolato e ampio.
Un team di scienziati dell’University of Illinois, a Chicago, negli Usa, ha condotto una ricerca su un gruppo di galline affette da tumori ovarici. Gli animali sono stati suddivisi in due gruppi e poi sottoposti per circa un anno ad una dieta normale e ad una arricchita al 10% dai semi di lino, noti per il loro alto contenuto di acidi grassi omega-3, che sono chemiopreventivi nel cancro della mammella e possono essere benefici anche per altri tipi di tumore.
Dai risultati delle analisi condotte in seguito i ricercatori hanno scoperto che nel gruppo alimentato con l’aggiunta di semi di lino vi erano più alti livelli di acidi grassi omega-3 nel sangue. Queste stesse galline erano più in salute, presentavano un numero minore di tumori ovarici e un aumento dei tassi di sopravvivenza rispetto alle galline nutrite con la dieta standard, senza semi di lino.
Gli scienziati ritengono che i semi di lino siano una buona fonte di sostanze benefiche, anche a fronte di precedenti studi che sostengono come i semi di lino siano ricchi di acido alfa-linoleico, sostanza utile nella prevenzione del cancro del colon retto, dei tumori al seno, della pelle e dei polmoni. Essi inoltre contribuiscono al controllo del colesterolo LDL, ovvero del colesterolo cattivo, riducendone i livelli. Ulteriori studi condotti su esseri umani saranno necessari per confermare le proprietà benefiche di una dieta arricchita da cibi che contengono questo tipo di sostanze per combattere il cancro ovarico, ma i risultati già ottenuti sono promettenti.
