La patata è un tubero commestibile ottenuto dalle piante della specie Solanum tuberosum. Ricche di acqua, le patate hanno un alto contenuto di carboidrati, presenti principalmente sotto forma di amidi, e potassio. La patata è un’ottima fonte di vitamine, soprattutto C e B5, e minerali (calcio, sodio, ferro, potassio, manganese e selenio). Tuttavia il contenuto di vitamina C va in gran parte perso durante la cottura.

L’apporto calorico per 100 grammi di prodotto non è particolarmente elevato, ma la patata ha uno scarso potere saziante e per questo motivo è generalmente sconsigliata nell’ambito di una dieta ipocalorica.
