La dieta yogica, o alimentazione yogica, è quella seguita dai cosiddetti yogin, ovvero coloro che osservano la filosofia induista dello yoga. Analogamente a quanto detto a proposito della dieta macrobiotica, la dieta yogica è quindi da considerarsi uno stile di vita, piuttosto che uno stile alimentare puro e semplice e certamente non rientra fra le comuni diete seguite allo scopo di dimagrire.

Piuttosto, si tratta di una dieta vegetariana basata anch’essa sul consumo di frutta e verdura locale e di stagione e vegetali come foglie, radici, tuberi, erbe aromatiche, cereali integrali, semi e frutti oleosi tutti consumati ad uno stato quanto più possibile grezzo e naturale. Più precisamente, gli alimenti nella dieta yogica sono suddivisi in tre grandi gruppi: Satva (senziente), Raja (mutativo), e Tama (statico). Vediamoli uno per uno:

I cibi satva sono collegati a felicità, armonia e consapevolezza di sè. Fanno parte di questo gruppo frutta e verdura, purchè freschi, di stagione e locali, cereali integrali, legumi, erbe e semi oleosi. I cibi satva sono in grado di infondere armonia e benessere in mente e corpo e sono proprio quelli su cui si fonda l’alimentazione yogica.

I cibi raja, al contrario, sono legati a stati di ipereccitazione e instabilità. Si tratta di tè, caffè, bibite zuccherate, zucchero e spezie. Questo tipo di alimento può essere consumato solo di tanto, in tanto.

Il cibo tama, o statico, rende apatici e depressi, per questo motivo è bandito dalla dieta dello yogin. Si tratta di pesci, carni, cipolle, aglio, funghi e bevande alcoliche.

Naturalmente, la dieta yogica essendo una dieta vegetariana presenta tutti i limiti tipici di un regime alimentare di questo tipo. Ciò nonostante chi la osserva sostiene che le carenze proteiche, solo per fare un esempio, dovute al mancato consumo di carni, latticini e uova, possano essere colmate dalla presenza nella dieta quotidiana dei semi oleosi.
