La depressione è il male del secolo ma si può vincere anche con un piccolo aiuto da parte della nostra alimentazione. La nutrizione infatti ha positivi effetti anche sull’umore e la dieta mediterranea, con l’accorgimento di evitare determinati dibi come le bibite o i dolci, ha un benefico effetto anti-depressivo.
Una precedente sperimentazione clinica aveva infatti dimostrato che il disturbo depressivo era più frequente in persone non adottavano una dieta sana mentre scendeva molto nelle persone che adottavano uno stile di vita sano. A partire da questi risultati, il dottor Felice Jacka della Deakin University in Australia ha voluto provare la dieta mediterranea su soggetti già affetti da depressione, per valutare se effettivamente l’alimentazione poteva essere di aiuto.
> LA DIETA VEGETARIANA AIUTA CONTRO LA DEPRESSIONE
Nello studio sono state coinvolte 67 persone con problemi di depressione da moderata a grave e la metà del campione ha seguito per 12 settimane una dieta mediterranea a base di cereali integrali, molti legumi, carne magra, uova, pesce, latticini non zuccherati. Pochissimi dolci, bibite e alcolici. Il resto del campione per le 12 settimane ha continuato la propria alimentazione di sempre.
I risultati hanno mostrato che chi aveva seguito la dieta mediterranea ha avuto un calo del livello di depressione e in alcuni casi è stata addirittura osservata la remissione dei sintomi.

Nulla di così nuovo, almeno per gli italiani che sono abituati a seguire un’alimentazione quantomeno basata sui principi della dieta mediterranea. Resta adesso da capire quali siano gli alimenti che, più degli altri, avrebbero questo benefico effetto antidepressivo. Di certo sappiamo che i grassi buoni che proteggono il cervello, il ridotto consumo di zuccheri tossici e la presenza delle fibre aiutano tantissimo a mantenere in salute il nostro organismo, una salute non solo fisica ma anche psichica.
