Endometriosi, una dieta ricca di grassi buoni ridurrebbe il rischio

L’endometriosi è una patologia ancora poco nota ma che affligge in Italia il 10% delle donne in età fertile; è una patologia che nelle sue forme più gravi può risultare invalidante e comporta in ogni caso un notevole abbassamento della qualità della vita delle donne che ne sono affette. Essa consiste infatti nella crescita del tessuto che riveste l’utero (l’endometrio) in sedi anomale quali vagina, tube, ovaie, peritoneo, vescica e intestino con la conseguente formazione di cisti e aderenze. Fra i sintomi dell’endometriosi troviamo dolore pelvico cronico, dismenorrea, durante durante i rapporti sessuali, stanchezza cronica e, nel 40% dei casi, infertilità.

Ad oggi non esiste una cura risolutiva, ma secondo uno studio pubblicato su Human Reproduction e condotto da un team di ricercatori dell’Harvard Medical School di Boston, negli Stati Uniti, una speranza arriva dalla prevenzione; sembra infatti che un consumo regolare di alimenti ricchi di acidi grassi omega3 aiuti a ridurre il rischio di insorgenza dell’endometriosi, mentre, al contrario, una dieta a base di grassi “cattivi”, soprattutto quelli trans, lo fa aumentare.

La ricerca, durata 12 anni è stata condotta su un campione di 70.709 donne ed è giunta alla conclusione che a determinare il rischio di sviluppare l’endometriosi non è tanto la quantità dei grassi consumati quanto piuttosto la loro qualità; per le donne che seguivano una dieta ricca di omega3 il rischio di incorrere nella patologia era inferiore del 22% rispetto alle altre. Le donne invece, che assumevano abitualmente cibi con un elevato contenuto di grassi trans, avevano addiruttura il 48% di probabilità in più di essere colpite dalla malattia.
