Si chiama Mind la dieta che previene l’Alzheimer, un morbo che comporta un lento, progressivo e inarrestabile deterioramento del sistema nervoso centrale. L’alimentazione, insieme allo stile di vita sano, può essere importantissima nella prevenzione di questo disturbo che a tutt’oggi non ha ancora una cura.
Attività fisica, allenamento della mente per mantenerla attiva e qualche accorgimento a tavola ci aiutano a prevenire l’Alzheimer. Particolare attenzione va posta alla dieta che deve essere ricca di fibre, antiossidanti, acidi grassi polinsaturi dei gruppi Omega 3, 6 e 9. Dunque spazio a cereali, frutta e verdura, pesce, pollo e frutta secca oleoginosa.
La dieta Mind, letteralmente mente in inglese, è stata messa a punto appositamente per la salute del cervello e delle facoltà cognitive. È un sistema alimentare che unisce i vantaggi della dieta mediterranea e quelli della dieta Dash, ideata per tenere sotto controllo l’ipertensione.
I cibi di base che fanno bene sono: verdure a foglia verde, noci, frutti di bosco, cereali integrali, legumi, pollame, pesce, olio d’oliva e vino (con moderazione). Sono invece da evitare carni rosse, burro e margarina, dolci, fritti, alimenti da fast food e formaggi.
Seguire questa dieta riduce fino al 53% il rischio di sviluppare l’Alzheimer secondo quanto dimostrato dai ricercatori che l’hanno messa a punto e poi testata su un gruppo di volontari. Il vantaggio della dieta è che produce risultati anche se non viene seguita scrupolosamente, con un 39% di rischio in meno al posto del 53% in chi la segue con ogni attenzione.
Da una ricerca pubblicata su Neurology era già emerso un collegamento positivo tra dieta mediterranea e prevenzione dell’Alzheimer. Quest’ultimo studio, pubblicato su Alzheimer’s & dementia: the journal of the alzheimer’s association, ha dimostrato che i vantaggi aumentano sensibilmente seguendo la dieta Mind.
