Chi si sta preparando per andare in vacanza adesso, può approfittare delle spiagge un po’ meno affollate per praticare uno sport che di solito viene effettuato sui sentieri di montagna: il nordic walking nella sua versione “on the beach”. Pensate che sia strano? Mica tanto, soprattutto se considerate che sabbia e bagnasciuga sono i terreni ideali per tonificare i muscoli e bruciare più calorie.

Il terreno cedevole obbliga ad una continua ricerca dell’equilibrio che impegna maggiormente la muscolatura e aumenta il dispendio energetico; il risultato è che si bruciano più calorie e si rassodano glutei e gambe, oltre ai vantaggi a favore dell’apparato cardiocircolatorio e alla sfera psicofisica. Allenasi in riva al mare permette poi di fare un pieno di ossigeno e garantirsi un’abbronzatura perfetta.

Il passo base è così composto: gamba e braccio opposto si muovono alternativamente; in pratica, si avanza con il piede destro e si appoggia il bastone sinistro al terreno in corrispondenza del tallone destro viceversa. Il bastoncino si muove sempre vicino al corpo, e deve essere usato per spingere e non per appoggiasi.

L’allenamento ideale è camminare per un’ora due o tre volte alla settimana, il momento migliore della giornata è il mattino presto, e comunque vanno evitate le ore più calde. Dato che in spiaggia non ci sono salite e discese come in montagna, per intensificare l’allenamento si può camminare in mare, perché l’acqua oppone resistenza, e il fondale impegna il fisico a trovare il gusto assetto.

L’allenamento deve iniziare con alcuni esercizi di stretching per preparare i muscoli e le articolazioni, mentre alla fine è opportuno eseguire degli esercizi di defaticamento.

L’abbigliamento deve essere comodo e adatto al clima: se fa caldo va bene anche il costume, altrimenti optate per calzoncini e canotta di cotone; le scarpe devono essere leggere e da escursionismo, studiate per assorbire gli impatti con il suolo. Se camminate sotto il sole, non dimenticate occhiali e crema anti-Uv e cappellino.
