Alimentazione e ciclo mestruale, esiste un legame?

Secondo voi esiste un legame fra l’andamento del flusso mestruale e l’alimentazione? In altre parole, è vero che alcuni alimenti hanno la proprietà di ridurre od aumentare il flusso e/o i sintomi dolorosi ad esso correlati? D’altra parte, “Il cibo sia la tua medicina”, diceva Ippocrate nel VI° secolo avanti Cristo e certamente ha un proprio fondamento l’affermazione secondo la quale in caso di flusso abbondante è opportuno mangiare molta carne rossa, mentre, analogamente, se questo è scarso, sarebbe il caso di consumare più pesce, che invece fluidifica il sangue inducendone una perdita più copiosa (ammesso che ce ne sia bisogno, chiedete al ginecologo).

Sembra inoltre che in caso di mestruazioni abbondanti siano consigliati i formaggi, i frutti di colore giallo, e tutti i vegetali che contengono sostanze in grado di migliorare la coagulazione del sangue quali agrumi, kiwi e peperoni. Utile anche come accennato, consumare carni rosse e verdure a foglia verde per reintegrare il ferro perso, mentre sarebbero da evitare i cibi che fluidificano il sangue come ananas, funghi, prezzemolo, pesce, cipolle e melone il cui consumo andrebbe invece aumentato in caso di flusso scarso.

Alcuni studi, ma di questo parleremo più approfonditamente in seguito, hanno poi mostrato che la sintomatologia mestruale può essere ridotta anche introducendo nella dieta cibi ricchi di acidi grassi omega 3 mentre altri hanno rilevato il ruolo della vitamina B6 (contenuta soprattutto in cereali integrali, fagioli, banane, noci) nella modulazione del dolore. Da evitare invece alcol e bevande gassate e zuccherate, formaggi, salumi e dolciumi.

Nel caso stiate programmando una gravidanza sembra che assumere una maggiore quantità  di proteine e di grassi vegetali (contenuti rispettivamente in carni rosse, uovo, pesce di mare e crostacei, patate, pomodori) influisca positivamente sull’ovulazione mentre gli episodi di gonfiore e ritenzione idrica che comunemente seguono il momento clou del ciclo (quello ovulatorio appunto) possono essere ridotti orientandosi sui cibi che favoriscono la diuresi: pesce, sedano, finocchi, insalata, asparagi, melone, anguria, ananas e così via.
