Sei arrabbiato? Fai un pò di esercizio fisico e ti passa

Chi non si arrabbia mai, alzi la mano. Credo che nessuno l’abbia alzata… dato che, in quanto esseri umani è normale che qualche volta possiamo arrabbiare. Il problema semmai nasce se questa diventa una regola e se la rabbia supera i limiti. Ad ogni modo, a rabbia che sale, si può intervenire con un po’ di esercizio fisico e proteggere il cuore da un possibile attacco collegato alla rabbia. Ecco quanto suggerito da un nuovo studio presentato al meeting annuale dell’American College of Sports Medicine, ACSM, tenutosi a Baltimora, negli Usa.

Secondo questo studio, a beneficiare dell’esercizio fisico per sbollire la rabbia sarebbero in particolare gli uomini, rispetto alle donne. Per arrivare a tali conclusioni un team di ricercatori ha sottoposto a test un gruppo di uomini per valutare l’umore, la rabbia e le emozioni. Ai soggetti sono state fatte visionare delle scene che provocassero in loro sentimenti di rabbia, prima e dopo aver fatto 30 minuti di esercizio con le gambe. Il tutto al 65% del loro massimo consumo di ossigeno.

Durante la visione delle immagini che avrebbero dovuto provocare la rabbia, i ricercatori hanno misurato l’attività oscillatoria cerebrale, il potenziale tardo-positivo correlato all’evento e le sensazioni di rabbia auto-denunciate dai partecipanti. Come ha dichiarato il dr. Nathaniel Thom, fisiologo dello stress e co-autore dello studio, “La novità di questo studio è che l’esercizio fisico protegge da ciò che può indurre uno stato d’animo arrabbiato, quasi come prendere l’aspirina per prevenire un attacco di cuore. In altre parole, l’esercizio fisico è davvero come una medicina. Tuttavia, l’esercizio fisico non ha cambiato le risposte EEG durante l’elicitazione delle emozioni di rabbia nei nostri soggetti”.

In base a questi risultati i ricercatori suggeriscono che ulteriori studi potrebbero essere condotti per esplorare altre possibili applicazioni dell’esercizio fisico nel controllo delle emozioni e nelle situazioni di rabbia cronica. La possibilità di fare esercizio a lungo termine poi può dare risultati diversi, come perdere peso e tonificare i muscoli.
