Non è tutto. Capita moltissime volte che la gente sia propensa all’autodiagnosi: si mangia qualcosa, ci si sente gonfi e si dà la colpa all’ultimo cibo ingerito. Gino Roberto Corazza, presidente della Società Italiana di Medicina Interna, ne ha parlato al Corriere della Sera.
In parte accade perché i disturbi che compaiono dopo aver mangiato sono abbastanza comuni, così la gente si convince che qualche specifico alimento ne sia responsabile senza rendersi conto che, se l’apparato digerente non funziona bene, si possono avere sintomi a prescindere da ciò che si mangia. Inoltre, i test a disposizione per capire se realmente un cibo non viene tollerato sono poco precisi, e questo non fa che favorire il proliferare dei numerosi luoghi comuni.
Ci sentiamo un po’ tutti dottori di noi stessi, ma ci dimentichiamo che in realtà non ne abbiamo le competenze. Non possiamo credere veramente di conoscerci così bene da non aver bisogno di uno studio approfondito. A questo si aggiungono tutti quegli studi spesso mal interpretati che vengono divulgati dei media. Risultato? Gli spinaci per diventare forti, la dieta dei cavernicoli per salvarci da malattie cardiovascolari e tumori, l’intolleranza al lattosio, dovuta alla carenza dell’enzima che serve a digerirlo, è un disturbo comune. È verissima quest’ultima affermazione, mal tradizionale dolore alla pancia compare bevendo una tazza di latte tutta insieme, non piccoli quantitativi più volte al dì. Infine, non è vero che dare zucchero ai bambini li renda iperattivi: questa sostanza migliora la concentrazione ed è utilissima soprattutto la mattina, prima di andare a scuola.
