Sindrome da deficit di attenzione e iperattività, individuato un legame con l’alimentazione

La Sindrome da deficit di attenzione e iperattività sarebbe legata ad un’alimentazione ricca di cibi grassi e trasformati e povera di frutta e verdura. A sostenerlo è uno studio dell’australiano Telethon Institute for Child Health Research di Perth, pubblicato sulla rivista Journal of Attention Disorders, che ha preso in esame un campione di 1.800 ragazzi analizzandone le preferenze in fatto di alimentazione e dividendoli, di conseguenza, in due gruppi: ”consumatori sani” e ”consumatori modello occidentale”.

Focalizzando in seguito la loro attenzione su 115 adolescenti (91 ragazzi e 24 ragazze) ai quali era stato diagnosticato il disturbo all’età di 14 anni, i ricercatori hanno rilevato che i loro pasti erano composti soprattutto da pietanze grasse, cibi fritti, insaccati, carni rosse e latticini. Il consumo abituale di cibo spazzatura sarebbe quindi associato a un rischio più che raddoppiato di incorrere nella Sindrome.

Tuttavia, precisano i ricercatori, il legame tra alimentazione e sindrome da deficit di attenzione e iperattività deve essere ancora indagato anche se è opportuno, nell’attesa che vengano svolti ulteriori studi, fare in modo che i bambini seguano fin dalla più tenera infanzia un’alimentazione povera di cibi trasformati, troppo ricchi di grassi, zuccheri e additivi e consumino invece abitualmente quantitativi adeguati di frutta, verdura e pesci ricchi di acidi grassi omega 3.

Come ipotizza la dottoressa Wendy Oddy, del team di ricercatori che ha condotto lo studio:

il modello alimentare occidentale non fornisce abbastanza micronutrienti essenziali per le funzioni cerebrali, in particolare per l’attenzione e la concentrazione

Ad essere sotto accusa sono soprattutto i processi di trasformazione industriale cui vengono sottoposti i cibi, sempre più frequentemente modificati nel gusto e nella consistenza attraverso l’aggiunta di additivi non del tutto innocui; ma se la dieta tipicamente occidentale risulta essere associata a un aumento dell’incidenza della Sindrome, forse potrebbe essere la stessa patologia a condurre i ragazzi verso preferenze alimentari poco salubri.
