Latte e cancro ai reni non ci sarebbe un legameRecentemente si era ipotizzato che vi potesse essere un legame tra l’assunzione di latte e un aumento del rischio di cancro ai reni. Un nuovo studio invece mette in dubbio ciò e ribadisce che non è necessario alterare il latte in alcun modo. Sono stati i ricercatori inglesi guidati dal dott. Nicholas Timpson del Reparto di Medicina Sociale all’University of Bristol a sostenere che il fallimento dei risultati genetici per replicare l’associazione tra il latte e il cancro ai reni suggerisce che i timori che il consumo di latte potrebbe elevare il rischio di cancro sono infondati.

Per sostenere questa tesi, gli scienziati hanno pubblicato un particolare studio sulla rivista ufficiale dell’American Association for Cancer Research, la Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention. Quello che hanno voluto verificare i ricercatori era se vi fosse un nesso fondato tra il consumo di latte e il rischio di cancro ai reni, come sostenuto da un precedente studio.

Per questo hanno utilizzato un marcatore genetico per cercare di districare la matassa. Così, per circa quattro anni i ricercatori hanno condotto uno studio basato sul controllo dei casi con dati forniti da ospedali. Sono stati coinvolti quattro paesi dell’Europa centrale e orientale. I dati analizzati comprendevano l’osservazione dei dati genetici. Hanno, inoltre, controllato l’eventuale presenza di una variante del gene MCM6, noto per essere associato alla tolleranza al lattosio, e utilizzato come marcatore imparziale per poter collegare il consumo di latte al rischio di cancro.

In linea generale, i ricercatori hanno scoperto che la differenza di rischio di cancro ai reni tra i bevitori adulti di latte e i non bevitori era del 35%. Tuttavia, a un esame per valutare il rapporto diretto per mezzo dei dati genetici non c’è stata un’associazione tra i due campioni. Come ha spiegato il dott. Timpson,

“Grazie ai risultati di questo studio possiamo affermare che del rapporto tra consumo di latte e il cancro non vi era alcuna prova corroborativa. Ovviamente per verificare questi risultati iniziali e non incorrere di nuovo in malintesi questo studio dovrebbe essere intrapreso su scala più ampia”.
