Non è una novità che la duchessa del Sussex sia da sempre una cultrice del benessere olistico, anche in virtù del fatto che sua madre è una insegnante di yoga da decenni. Per ciò che riguarda il suo regime alimentare Meghan Markle, ora in attesa del secondo figlio, ha deciso di optare per la dieta flexitariana, conosciuta anche come dieta vegetariana part-time e in capacità di apportare benessere all’organismo seconda solo alla dieta mediterranea. Questo regime alimentare è caratterizzato da un importante quantità di prodotti vegetali è da un consumo molto basso di proteine animali.  Questa dieta non è solo salutare dal punto di vista del benessere fisico ma è anche tra quelle più sostenibili dal punto di vista ambientale: non solo per il tipo di cibi che vengono consumati ma anche perché il consumo di carne, quando previsto, è a chilometro zero e basato su allevamenti sostenibili.

Nella dieta flexitariana i vegetali sono gli alimenti principali consumati: ampio spazio è dato a verdure, legumi e semi al fine di dar modo di apportare all’organismo i giusti nutrienti senza contare troppo sulla carne. Uno studio condotto a riguardo ha confermato come questa dieta sia capace di tagliare le calorie senza far venir meno tutte le sostanze delle quali le persone hanno bisogno.

Questo regime alimentare può essere diversificato in vari modi, portando alla rinuncia di proteine animali dalle due volte a settimana a 5 volte a settimana. In particolare può essere utilizzata a lungo se bilanciata in modo corretto: frutta e verdura devono rappresentare il 40% degli alimenti consumati, i cereali integrali, i semi e legumi un altro 40% mentre il restante 20% deve essere composto da proteine animali.

Ovviamente, soprattutto se si è in dolce attesa, è necessario discutere con il proprio medico prima di iniziare a seguire questa dieta al fine di accertarsi che l’apporto di nutrienti sia adatto allo stato di salute.
