La dieta mima digiuno, nota anche come DMD, è la più chiacchierata del momento e se ne parla da alcune settimane ma senza specificarne bene le modalità. Qualcuno ha parlato della riduzione del numero di calorie ingerite fino al 50%, qualcun altro di un drastico taglio delle proteine.

Quello che si sapeva con certezza era che in 5 giorni al mese, rigorosamente controllati da un medico, si potevano perdere molti chili e guadagnare in salute. Sembra effettivamente un miracolo ed il medico che l’ha messa a punto l’ha studiata proprio per intervenire sull’invecchiamento cellulare e sulle malattie croniche degenerative con un sistema di alimentazione che tiene conto dei vantaggi del digiuno.

Il medico si chiama Valter Longo ed è un biologo americano, direttore del Longevity Institute dell’University of Southern California (USC) e del Laboratorio di Longevità e Cancro all’Istituto IFOM di Milano.

Nulla a che vedere, a prima vista, con una semplice dieta dimagrante. La dieta per il momento è riservata, solo sotto rigido controllo medico, a chi non ha problemi di salute mentre è sconsigliata a chi soffre di diabete, anoressia, agli anziani e a chi ha un indice di massa corporea inferiore a 18. Questo perché interviene drasticamente sul calo di peso e impone fasi di digiuno.

Perché possa essere estesa anche a chi soffre di patologie bisogna aspettare la fase di sperimentazione e le autorizzazioni necessarie. Intanto Longo spiega che pur non trattandosi di un vero e proprio digiuno, vi si avvicina molto.

Lo studio della dieta finora ha coinvolto un gruppo sperimentale di 19 persone, ma anche il medico in prima persona l’ha testata su se stesso. Il 95% di loro non ha abbandonato la dieta nell’arco della sua durata, mentre di solito le percentuali di abbandono sono molto significative.

Come dovrebbe funzionare questa dieta particolare? Si prevede una fase di digiuno di 5 giorni al mese, per un massimo di 5-6 mesi. Gli altri 25 giorni si mangia liberamente, senza modificare le proprie abitudini alimentari.

Durante il periodo detto mima digiuno, si riduce l’apporto calorico del primo giorno del 34% rispetto al fabbisogno quotidiano richiesto dal proprio fisico. Gli altri 4 giorni l’apporto calorico si ridurrà progressivamente fino ad arrivare al 45% del fabbisogno.

È necessario anche osservare un equilibrio specifico tra i macronutrienti nei giorni di mima digiuno. Il primo giorno il rapporto prevede il 10% di proteine, il 56% di grassi e il 34% di carboidrati. Dal secondo al quinto giorno le proteine saranno il 9%, i grassi il 44% e i carboidrati il 47%.
