In questo regime alimentare non sono accettati i cibi lavorati o raffinati.

Viene data preferenza ad alimenti di origine biologica e il pesce prende il posto della carne. Il sale marino naturale viene considerato il condimento principale.

Abbiamo detto che la dieta macrobiotica non accetta i cibi lavorati. Questo significa che oltre alla carne e agli insaccati non vengono inseriti in questo regime alimentare i latticini, lo zucchero bianco, gli alimenti a base di farine raffinate, cioccolata, caffè, dolcificanti e cibi con additivi.

È evidente che uno dei principi fondamentali sia la naturalezza degli ingredienti. A questa si aggiunge il modo in cui si mangia.
