Cibi light, sono davvero così leggeri?

Quando si decide di mettersi a dieta o di cominciare a “darsi una regolata” a tavola, è piuttosto frequente  correre al supermercato a fare una spesa light. In queste occasioni, insieme a frutta, verdura e yogurt, mettiamo nel carrello anche un buon numero di cibi light, ossia quelli che recano sulla confezione la dicitura “senza grassi” o “senza zuccheri” come latticini, bevande, succhi di frutta e persino dessert, caramelle e merendine.

Probabilmente i più credono, in virtù del minore contenuto calorico dato dall’assenza di quei nutrienti considerati nemici della linea per eccellenza, che acquistando questo tipo di prodotto potranno concedersi qualche sfizio e sentirsi meno tristi e angosciati (stati d’animo che spesso accompagnano il cammino verso il peso forma) almeno a colazione e merenda. Peccato però che, al di là di quanto dichiarato in pubblicità e sulle etichette,  in questo tipo di cibo di light, spesso e volentieri, c’è poco o nulla.

Questo accade per un duplice motivo: da un lato perchè al di là della eliminazione di grassi e zuccheri gli alimenti light sono caloricamente equivalenti alle versioni non light dello stesso prodotto, dall’altro perchè spesso le loro case produttrici giocano sulla grandezza delle porzioni confondendo in questo modo l’ignaro consumatore che si sente talmente rassicurato dalle poche calorie apportate da un dato alimento da non notare che si trova dinnanzi a una porzione piccolissima di prodotto (avrete infatti senz’altro notato che le porzioni di cibi light sono in genere microscopiche e i biscotti molto più leggeri).

Per questo motivo al momento dell’acquisto può essere utile non solo fare un raffronto fra le calorie apportate da cibi light, o presunti tali, e “cibi normali”, ma soprattutto fare riferimento alla quantità di calorie apportate da cento grammi di prodotto e non da una singola porzione (che si tratti di un biscotto o di una barretta dietetica). Considerazioni analoghe possono essere fatte per le molteplici evoluzioni dei tradizionali corn flakes: saranno anche più ricchi di fibre, ma vi pare possibile che un prodotto a base di cereali addizionato da golosissimi pezzi di cioccolata possa essere poco calorico?
