Proprietà terapeutiche
Siamo più abituati a vedere l’agrifoglio come una pianta ornamentale, ma vanta proprietà terapeutiche importanti. Le foglie hanno un’azione febbrifuga, tossifuga, antireumatica e antiartritica, anche la corteccia ha proprietà febbrifughe, mentre le radici sono diuretiche. Sapevate che il mate (o erba mate), la bevanda più diffusa in America meridionale, è preparata proprio con le foglie di questa pianta? Contengono, infatti, caffeina in quantità superiore a quella del caffè e non a caso l’infuso viene usata per le sue proprietà eccitanti. L’agrifoglio vanta anche proprietà stomachiche, che lo rendono un alleato in caso di cattiva digestione e colite.
Le bacche non vengono utilizzate perché sono fortemente tossiche e possono dare nausea e vomito. Le foglie e la corteccia si usano per uso interno sotto forma di decotto o tintura madre come rimedio contro la febbre. L’infuso si prepara con la polvere della foglia al 2-3%, si lascia riposare per 20 minuti si bevono da 1 a 3 tazzine al giorno, oppure 1 tazza da somministrare a cucchiai nei dolori colici e nella bronchite cronica, contro il catarro bronchiale cronico, i reumatismi, in caso di cattiva digestione e coliche. Contro il raffreddore o la tosse si consigliano 2 o 3 tazzine al giorno. Si può preparare anche un decotto facendo bollire per pochi minuti 40-50 g di foglie essiccate in 1 l di acqua. Poi si filtra il tutto con un colino e se ne prendono 3-4 tazzine al giorno lontano dai pasti. Per usare le radici, si può preparare un decotto facendo bollire per 10 minuti 30 g di radice essiccata in 1 l di acqua. Se ne prendono 2-3 tazzine al giorno.
