Le infezioni urinarie sono spesso causate da un attacco da parte del colibatterio Escherichia Coli, meglio noto come E. coli. Le manifestazioni più evidenti di questa infezione sono disturbi come la cistite. In estate e con il caldo, poi, è più facile esserne soggetti a queste fastidiose infezioni. In genere per la cura si ricorre agli antibiotici, ma è stata da poco scoperta l’esistenza di un aiuto tutto naturale, quello del succo di mirtilli.
Secondo uno studio pubblicato sulla rivista scientifica Molecular Nutrition and Food Research, un team di ricercatori del Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Gran Bretagna, coordinati dalla dott.ssa Terri Camesano, ha scoperto che il succo di mirtilli sembra ridurre la capacità del batterio E. coli di attaccarsi all’epitelio dell’uretra e della vescica e alle cellule delle vie urinarie. Bisogna sottolineare che il solo flusso dell’urina non è in grado di rimuovere il batterio, per questo si ha la necessità di ricorrere a misure esterne per combattere l’infezione.
Nonostante si sia dimostrato chiaramente come questo processo avvenga, la dott.ssa Camesano, professoressa di ingegneria chimica presso la stessa università, ha sottolineato come lo studio da lei condotto non sia clinico, ma meccanico, in quanto ad essere oggetto di indagine scientifica sono state le forze dirette che possono portare alle infezioni. I risultati hanno confermato che il succo di mirtillo è in grado di contrastare le infezioni urinarie, sottolineando però che l’effetto è dose dipendente, ossia più succo di mirtillo si beve, più la forza di attaccamento dell’E. coli viene indebolita.
In questo modo si favorisce il distacco del batterio permettendo la guarigione dall’infezione, una volta che questo non è più presente nel tratto dell’apparato urinario. Ulteriori approfonditi studi saranno necessari per poter determinare quale dose sia ottimale di succo di mirtilli, da integrare ad un’alimentazione sana ovviamente, tuttavia i risultati mostrano senza dubbio che questo è un rimedio possibile e senza tutti quegli effetti collaterali che gli antibiotici possono far insorgere negli organismi più delicati.
