I broccoli aiutano a combattere il cancro al fegato. Secondo uno studio condotto in Cina, infatti, il consumo di questi vegetali aiuta l’organismo a eliminare le tossine cancerogene, causa della formazione di questo tipo di male.
Lo studio, condotto da un gruppo di ricercatori della Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine e della Bloomberg School of Public Health, in collaborazione diversi centri oncologici di Shanghai e del Minnesota, è stato eseguito nella provincia di Jiangsu, un’area rurale situata vicino Shanghai in cui la presenza di persone predisposte al cancro al fegato è estremamente alta, a causa del consumo di cibi contaminati con una sostanza cancerogena ambientale. Preparati i germogli di broccoli sotto forma di estratto liquido (ricco di sulforafano glucosinolato), in modo tale da assicurare dosaggi standard, la ricerca ha avuto inizio.
L’indagine si è svolta su un centinaio di persone, le quali hanno bevuto la stessa quantità di estratto ogni giorno per due settimane, mentre un gruppo di controllo ha preso un liquido simile, ma privo di estratto di broccolo. Allo scadere delle due settimane, le analisi delle urine hanno mostrato che le sostanze cancerogene erano state eliminate dall’organismo, ma solo nei pazienti che avevano bevuto l’estratto di broccoli. Inoltre, con l’aumentare dei livelli di derivati dal sulforafano nelle urine, scendeva la quantità di Dna danneggiato, cosa che può indicare una riduzione nel rischio di tumore.
Durante un’intervista per la rivista scientifica Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers Prevention, nella quale sono stati pubblicati anche i risutati della ricerca, l’epidemiologo Jian-Guo Chen del Qidong Liver Cancer Institute afferma:
Benchè lo studio non esamini direttamente il cancro al fegato, e’ chiaro che
questa malattia ha conseguenze devastanti in questa particolare regione della
Cina , oltre che in tutto il mondo. Questo studio rappresenta un passo iniziale
nella valutazione di metodi alimentari per la prevenzione di questa malattia, e
può essere applicabile ad altri tipi di tumori
Tanto che i ricercatori stanno pianificando ulteriori esperimenti per esaminare la quantità di broccolo ideale e le implicazioni della ricerca per altre popolazioni ad alto rischio.
