La vitamina A è ottima per proteggere l’epidermide dai raggi del sole, mentre la vitamina C, grazie al fatto che partecipa alla produzione del collagene, aiuta a mantenere la pelle elastica e fresca.
Il melone contribuisce anche in altri modi ad aiutare la nostra pelle: grazie alla ricchezza di vitamine antiossidanti agisce contro i radicali liberi, e sono sempre di più gli studi che ipotizzano un ruolo positivo del melone nella prevenzione dei tumori.
Si può scegliere tra diverse varietà, differenti nella forma, nel colore, ma soprattutto nella consistenza e nel sapore, più o meno dolce e aromatico. I meloni “reticolati” sono i più comuni: hanno una forma un po’ ovoidale e si riconoscono per la buccia sottile e rugosa.
I migliori, però, sono i meloni “cantalupi” o “francesini”, riconoscibili per la forma sferica e la buccia liscia e sottile di colore giallastro: una volta tagliati la polpa giallo-arancio regala un sapore zuccherino e un profumo delizioso. Al momento dell’acquisto è molto importante controllare che il melone sia sodo, senza parti rammollite e che sia ben pesante; inoltre, va annusato con attenzione: in diversi punti della buccia si deve sentire il suo tipico profumo.
