Le pratiche illegali più diffuse sono essenzialmente di 2 tipi: la rigenerazione del pesce scaduto e le etichette fraudolente, che spacciano un tipo di pesce economico per uno più pregiato o che riportano una falsa origine di provenienza.
Inoltre, un’indagine condotta di recente dal Movimento difesa del cittadino, ha rilevato come solo il 26% dei banchi vendita italiani presenti correttamente le informazioni al consumatore. Secondo il regolamento Ue, infatti, le etichette devono contenere la denominazione commerciale della specie, l’area di pesca e il metodo di produzione (pescato o allevato).
Le truffe più comuni riguardano la platessa, venduta come sogliola, il pesce africano spacciato per pesce persico o il pangasio propinato come pesce spada. Un’altra pratica piuttosto diffusa è quella di mischiare il pesce scaduto, abilmente mascherato con additivi chimici, insieme a pesce scongelato, ma non scaduto, che poi viene venduto soprattutto a ristoranti e mense. Anche nel caso del pesce scongelato siamo di fronte ad una truffa bella e buona, perché solo il pesce fresco si può conservare in freezer e chi l’acquista ha il diritto di saperlo.
