La salute delle parti intime spesso dipende da quello che mangiamo, soprattutto se soffriamo di candida, che sappiamo essere “ghiotta” di zuccheri. La ginecologa Karen Morton ha creato una sorta di dieta della vagina, ossia una serie di consigli relativi ad abitudini alimentari che possano essere d’aiuto alle donne con ricorrenti infezioni o con abrasioni molto fastidiosi.
Per ostacolare la candidosi, si dovrebbero mettere al bando tutti i cibi pieni di lieviti o comunque fermentati – niente pizza e birra, in pratica – e optare per bevande o yogurt probiotici. È bene anche tenere sotto controllo il peso, dato che la candida viene più facilmente a chi è sovrappeso.
Da non sottovalutare le infezioni del tratto urinario. Ci sono alcune donne convinte che i mirtilli allevino i fastidi di problemi come la cistite – e, in effetti, il mirtillo è presente in alcuni rimedi fitoterapici contro le infezioni del tratto urinario. Morton sostiene che non vi sia prova scientifica in tal senso, ma tentar non nuoce. È provato invece che l’aglio e i suoi derivati ostacolino le cistiti più persistenti.
Soffrite di secchezza vaginale? In menopausa purtroppo è un problema molto diffuso, mentre è meno frequente fra le donne fertili, in gravidanza o subito dopo il parto. La secchezza vaginale si ostacola con l’edamame, un ortaggio che si trova in baccelli ed è diffuso nelle cucine asiatiche, poiché derivato dalla soia. Se la secchezza vaginale dovesse dipendere espressamente da un livello basso di estrogeni si possono consumare tuberi, come patate e carote, che ne sono ricchi.
