“L’esercizio fisico che mira a proteggere il sistema cardiovascolare, come l’aerobica, è sicuro e salutare per i soggetti sofferenti di artrite reumatoide”. A fare una simile affermazione è un team di ricercatori dell’Università di Grenoble. Secondo lo studio francese infatti chi fa regolare esercizio fisico accusa meno dolori e ha una migliore qualità della vita. L’artrite reumatoide è una malattia infiammatoria cronica caratterizzata da gonfiore alle articolazioni, rigidità, dolore, affaticamento e malessere generale.
Dai dati dell’OMS, l’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità, risulta che soffre di artrite reumatoide l’1% della popolazione mondiale. Gli studi dello statunitense Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicano che le persone sofferenti di artrite reumatoide hanno il doppio di probabilità in più di avere limitazioni sulle attività quotidiane rispetto ai soggetti che non hanno la malattia. Gli scienziati francesi, guidati dal dott. Athan Baillet hanno voluto far luce sui possibili benefici che l’aerobica potrebbe avere sui soggetti con artrite reumatoide.
Per capire meglio sono stati analizzati quattordici studi e metanalisi riferite a 510 pazienti del gruppo d’intervento e 530 di quello di controllo. Le persone che avevano partecipato a tali ricerche avevano un’età compresa tra 44 e i 68 anni e accusavano la malattia da un minimo di un anno a un massimo di sedici anni. I ricercatori hanno cercato di valutare l’efficacia dell’esercizio aerobico sui sintomi dell’artrite reumatoide basandosi su differenze medie standardizzate. Questa è la differenza di variazione dei risultati medi rispetto a quelle di base degli esercizi aerobici utilizzati nella riabilitazione di tipo non-aerobico.
Come ha affermato il dott. Baillet,
“I nostri risultati mostrano che i pazienti con artrite remautoide stabile trarrebbero beneficio dall’esercizio aerobico regolare. Mentre gli studi precedenti indicavano che pazienti con artrite reumatoide sono fisicamente inattivi, il nostro studio mostra come l’attività aerobica possa divenire un intervento sicuro e vantaggioso. Sono necessari ulteriori studi per determinare bene l’impatto clinico e il condizionamento cardio-respiratorio nella gestione dell’artrite reumatoide”.
I risultati saranno pubblicato nel numero di luglio di Arthritis Care and Research, il giornale dell’American College of Rheumatology.
